Stefanishyna Outlines Priorities as Special Envoy for Ukraine-US Cooperation

Olha Stefanishyna, who was appointed as Special Envoy of the President of Ukraine for Cooperation with the United States of America as part of the new reshuffle in the Ukrainian government, spoke about her main tasks in her new position.

Stefanishyna has served as Ukraine’s Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration since 2020, as the country advanced its EU accession process. 

In an interview, she said that she would remain in this position until she receives the US credentials and completes all the procedures for appointing an ambassador. The reason for this was to start working as soon as possible and then replace Ukraine's ambassador to the US, Oksana Markarova. 

Stefanishyna outlined several areas that the President of Ukraine will require her to work on: "The first is the implementation of the so-called ‘mineral agreement’. The second is the organization of a mechanism for purchasing American weapons." 

The Special Envoy for Ukraine-US Cooperation also noted that the United States has already given a positive signal of its readiness to sell weapons to Ukraine, and NATO and the EU have confirmed their intention to financially support the purchase. Her task is, therefore, to ensure that the mechanism is successful. 

She pointed out that she is still waiting for additional instructions from the President.  

“For now, my key task is to consult with the Ukrainian parliament, the new prime minister, the heads of state campaigns and the president's team so that by the time I go to the United States, I will have a set agenda,” Stefanishyna added. 

As The Gaze reported earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed Olga Stefanishyna as the head of state's special representative for the development of cooperation between Ukraine and the United States.
